The peripatetic Visual Impairment Service is based at Windsor Park School.  Children in Falkirk who have visual impairment are educated within their local mainstream educational setting or within an ASN provision.

As pupils with Visual Impairment (VI) are based in many different schools around the Falkirk area, we offer our pupils the opportunity to attend regular events throughout the year where they can get to know their VI peers.

The Qualified Teacher for Children with Visual Impairment (QTVI) will visit the child or young person at their home, nursery, primary, secondary or ASN setting.  These visits may be weekly, monthly, termly or annually depending on the level of support required for the individual and may increase during times of transition.

Braille users receive more intensive support from a QTVI and may be supported by a Support for Learning Assistant who has an interest in, or is qualified in braille.

QTVIs observe and assess how a child or young person is using their vision in their setting. They offer support and advice to school staff, parents, children and young people and other partner agencies.  They will offer recommendations on how to ensure the learner's needs are met and, where appropriate, will contribute to the child or young person's Child's Plan.
